The Right DPI for the
Best Results
One of the biggest decisions you can make when preparing
files for your printed materials is choosing the right
DPI for your images that will produce optimum results.
Here’s what you need to know.
Press/Printer capabilities:
What is the maximum DPI on the exact device your materials
are being printed on?
Our XL Color devices print 100-200 DPI
and
considering most materials that are printed on these devices
are large display pieces that are seen from a distance,
you can easily get away with the lower DPI. If your project
requires
higher quality use the maximum.
Our Digital Offset Printing Indigo
Press prints quality images best at 300 DPI. Considering
materials printed on this machine will be held at an
arms length, printing at anything less that 250 - 300
DPI would be lacking in quality.
Important NOTE: Images and files should
be at optimum DPI’s when at full size. So if you
are designing something at half size that will be enlarged
proportionally to the final size, make sure your your
DPI’s meet the minimum
requirements.
