I want to get some drum scans
made, but I'm not sure what to ask for. What do I
need to ask for so I can get the best and most optimized
quality?
A good rule of thumb when getting drum scans done
is to ask yourself what the scan will be used for
in its finished form. Is it going on the internet?
Is it going to be used as an image for film output?
Once you establish the use of your scan, we can accomodate
the finished product more efficiently. Here are some
good pointers for scanning your originals:
- For scans that will used for print, always figure
your finished resolution should be 1.5 - 2 times
the linescreen or lpi your film will be imaged at
and saved in CMYK mode (if printing in process separations).
- For scans used for screen viewing, such as the
internet, your finished resolution should be 72
dpi and saved in RGB mode.
- Keep your originals as clean as possible. If your
transparency or slide comes in a protective cover,
leave it on and Captured Images will remove it to
insure a scan with no fingerprints.
- Recommended originals for drum scanning are:
- All other originals such as photo prints and fine
art pieces are good candidates for the flatbed scanner.
